Find What Feels Good Yoga

Adriene and Benji are long-time “internet” pals. For years now, I’ve been following Adriene Mishler’s yoga channel on Youtube, Yoga with Adriene, to help me stretch, calm, recenter, and take time out of my day for myself. I’ve even had the privilege of going to one of her classes down in Austin back in 2016.

Here’s the thing about Adriene’s videos. I’ve tried several yoga classes at various studios in person and online platforms, but it’s her videos that I consistently keep coming back to. As someone who gets overstimulated very easily, her videos work best for me because there aren’t any bells and whistles. There aren’t any distractions to keep me from focusing on the practice itself.

Her yoga practices are meditations in themselves. What I enjoy most about her videos is that her practice space is very minimalistic, and she doesn’t set music to her videos so there is little distraction. Not to mention, her voice is very warm, welcoming, and kind so it always makes for a very gentle practice. Whether you’re at the very beginning of your yoga journey or years into your practice, she offers modifications and encourages you to meet your appropriate edge. I take that to mean to challenge yourself in small increments, know when to back up a little bit, and give your body what it needs today.

Some times you might be extra tired, in which case, I recommend her Bedtime Yoga practice, and for whatever other emotions you may be navigating, she has videos for different themes like grief, rejoice, etc. Other practices focus on specific areas of the body like shoulders, lower back, neck, the primary problem areas where many of us carry our stress. Throughout her videos, she also reminds us to “bring the breath” which is its own task within the greater practice but the essence of our being. Every January, she kicks off the year with 30 days of yoga, every day of the month. For the last 4 years, I’ve looked forward to and done each practice because I’ve found that it’s really grounding for me. It helps me establish and maintain some structure and keep my movement routine intact for the coming year.

For the remainder of the year, I typically reserve at least one day a week for a longer yoga practice, and if I’m short on time, I’ll do a 10-15-minute video to wake up my muscles before the real work begins or just to get a movement snack in during the day. The biggest advantage for me is that yoga helps me to maintain my mobility and flexibility, gives my body a good stretch, and helps to keep the blood flowing. And all in all, it just feels good, and thus, yoga has become one of my most beloved, sacred practices.

She posts a new video once a month on her Youtube channel. If you subscribe, all the videos on her channel are free to the public. She also has her own online platform and community for just $10/month. You can’t beat that deal! She posts exclusive content including yoga practices, meditations, vlog updates, monthly calendars, and more. You’re invited and always welcome in this distraction-free environment and space where you’re encouraged to come to the mat as you are.
